The limits of science

Does the scientific method have limits, or can it elucidate every possible question? There are those, like Peter Medawar, who argued that there are domains of human experience where its writ does not run. In this talk, Professor Atkins will argue the opposite: that the application of science is without limit, and that it can elucidate all the great questions of being. These include the origin of the universe, its purpose, the activities within it, its comprehensibility, and its destiny.

This year the West Midlands British Science Association Prestige Lecture will be given by Professor Peter Atkins. The talk will be based upon his recent book: On Being: A scientist's exploration of the great questions of existence

As well as several popular chemistry textbooks, Professor Atkins has written science books for the general public including Atkins' Molecules and Galileo's Finger: The Ten Great Ideas of Science.

He is also a well-known atheist.

Seats are limited so we recommend you book early.
